Evansville Police Department

Mental Health Division

The Mental Health Division is comprised of a Mental Health Liaison Officer and a supervisor, and services Vanderburgh County. The goal of the unit is to strengthen the connection between law enforcement, individuals in crisis, and community service providers. Unlike a traditional policing role, this position emphasizes intervention, education, and collaboration over enforcement, with the goal of improving outcomes for those experiencing mental health challenges and enhancing community well-being.

The Mental Health Division plays a vital role in coordinating the Evansville Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program, conducting follow-ups with individuals after crisis events, and working closely with community partners to identify long-term solutions. Responsibilities also include supporting investigations where mental illness is a contributing factor, managing Red Flag cases, and proactively engaging with high-risk individuals to divert them from repeated criminal justice involvement. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping some of the community’s most vulnerable members navigate crisis, access resources, and build pathways toward stability.
