Chief Philip Smith

Chief of Police Philip Smith has served on the Evansville Police Department since January of 2013. He’s served as an officer in motor patrol, worked in the administration’s public information office as the department’s Special Projects Coordinator, and has served as the department’s Assistant Chief of Police.


Smith has been recognized locally and nationally for his involvement and efforts in community policing. In 2020 he was recognized by then United States Attorney General William Barr with the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Policing. Prior to his career in law enforcement he worked in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation serving the youth of the Evansville community.
